Progress Reports Coming Home

Posted in News & Announcements

Hello Edgemont Families,

I-CANyons Student Reports are coming home Thursday, November 20th.  Based on feedback from parents and teachers, the I-CANyons Student Reports have been revised and updated for the 2014-15 school year.

The updated elementary I-CANyons Student Reports will give parents a progress report for Term 1 and Term 2.  The biggest change parents will see on the Student Reports is the use of three indicators that illustrate each student's progress toward mastery.  These indicators are as follows:

3= On Track at this Time - Student is on track to master this standard by the end of the school year.

2= Progressing - Student is making progress toward meeting the standard at this time; sometimes demonstrating skills needed to meet standards, at other times showing a lack of understanding or ability to apply the concept or skills.

1= Insufficient Progress - Student is showing risk of not mastering the standard by the end of the year and is receiving intervention support.

The indicators reported on this first I-CANyons Student Report should be consistent with the information located in the strengths and goals portions of each student’s SEP form that was shared at our recent parent teacher conferences.

Details about the I-CANyons Student Report can be found on the Canyons District website, http://www.canyonsdistrict.org/student-reports. SAGE Test Results

Posted in News & Announcements

SAGE testing results are in.  The SAGE (Student Assessment of Growth and Excellence) tests are different from the CRTs.  By comparison, the CRTs measured old standards and focused on student recall via multiple choice questions. SAGE tests measure Utah's more challenging standards in Math, English Language Arts, and Science.   SAGE measures the full range of grade-level knowledge and skills.  Students are writing, construction math equations, building graphs, and conducting experiments on the computer.  Therefore, SAGE and CRT data cannot be compared.

The scores this first year of using the SAGE test appear unusually low. Results from Spring 2014 serve as a baseline for continued improvement for our students, teachers and school.
