Santa's Secret Shop is returning to Edgemont Elementary! This Wednesday, December 3rd through Friday, December 5th the Shop will be open for students to select and purchase gifts for their friends and loved ones. Gifts range in cost from $.50 to $15.00. Flyers and envelopes should be coming home with your students Monday, December 1st! School Closure Procedures

Posted in News & Announcements

As we head into the winter season, it is possible the weather might be so extreme that school closures may be necessary.  Please read about our school closure procedures below...

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND INFORMATION

Parents and employees should listen to Wasatch Front radio and television stations for school-closure information when the weather is extreme. Canyons District also will employ Skylert, its website, Facebook and Twitter to alert parents about school closures. Canyons District also plans to send out messages to our School Community Councils and PTAs. In the case of school closures, announcements will be posted on the Web site  — canyonsdistrict.org — and announced via Facebook and Twitter by 5:30 a.m.

 WHAT WE WILL TELL YOU

The District will communicate one of three messages:  1) Day and date a school is closed; 2) Day and date a school is starting late; 3) and day and date schools will be dismissed.

 WHO WILL MAKE THE ANNOUNCEMENT

School closures will be announced when authorized by the Superintendent of Schools or his designee after consulting with senior staff members, including but not limited to the Director of Transportation and the Director of Facilities. The National Weather Service and other state, county and city agencies also may be asked to advise the District administration.

  CLOSURES FOR ONE DAY ONLY

All announcements are for one day only.  No announcement means schools will be open and operate as usual.

EMERGENCY PLANS

Families are encouraged to establish an emergency plan for their children in the event that schools are closed, start late or dismissed early.  Parents should instruct their children where to go or what to do if a parent is not at home.

BUS STOPS

Parents are asked to meet their children at bus stops when buses are running on delayed or emergency schedules.

MAKE-UP DAYS

The Utah State Office of Education requires a minimum of 990 hours or 180 instructional days or school.  Days lost because of inclement weather will be made up first on the Washington and Lincoln Day Recess (President’s Day) and then during Spring Recess.

Open Enrollment

Posted in News & Announcements

Open Enrollment Window

Per Utah statute, the school-choice window opens Monday, Dec. 1.  Schools will continue to accept Standard Open Enrollment Application Forms through Friday, Feb. 20, 2015. Students who want to attend a school other than the one assigned to them by geographic boundaries must submit these applications, which can be accessed on the website (http://www.canyonsdistrict.org/planning-and-enrollment-1), any Canyons school, or the Canyons Administration Building, 9150 S. 500 West. Applications should be submitted directly to the school where the child would like to attend. Once a school administrator approves an open-enrollment permit, the permit will renew automatically every year thereafter as long as the student remains at the same school and the permit is not revoked. Permits, which are granted on a first-come, first-served, space available basis, must be renewed when a student advances from elementary to middle school or from middle school to high school. Questions?  Please call the Canyons District Office of Planning and Enrollment at 801-826-5092.
