Operation Safe Passage

Posted in News & Announcements

Safe Passage.jpegChildren's safety is always a concern, so we are welcoming interested volunteers to participate with our Operation Safe Passage Program. Willing volunteers work directly with the Sandy City Police Department Crime Prevention Unit and will be invited to the Operation Safe Passage internet group.

The internet group will allow volunteers to post timely information, such as suspicious behavior or criminal activity they have witnessed at and around their school for all volunteers to be alerted to. This is also an avenue for the Crime Prevention Unit to post safety tips, training, and a call out for volunteers when a search is formed for a lost child or special needs adult. In addition, all training is done through this forum. This helps the volunteer to review all information when it is convenient for them.

Operation Safe Passage is a program to protect children from being abducted while walking to and from school. In addition, it enhances pedestrian safety along safe walking routes and reduces opportunities for bullies to intimidate other children.

Volunteers wear Operation Safe Passage identification we provide; while walking, driving children to school or waiting with them at bus stops, and for search call outs.

   The volunteers:

o    serve as eyes and ears for Sandy City Police
o    learn to recognize and report to the police criminal activity
o    attend abducted or lost child training to assist police when necessary
o    complete a background check at the Sandy City Police Department

Once the volunteer has completed a background check that is conducted by the Police Department, they will be confirmed as a volunteer

1.  Over the weekend, Canyons School District emailed an Edgemont school survey to the email listed on your Skyward account.  Please take a moment to complete this short survey!  Your input helps all of us at Edgemont see what we are doing well and alerts us to areas we can improve.  It is greatly appreciated that you fill out the survey with the entire school year in mind rather than base your input on a single interaction or event. All faculty members read the comment sections with the intention of learning, growing and planning instruction that provides improved services to all Edgemont students.  Thank you for taking the time to share your positive and constructive feedback that can help Edgemont be the best school for our community.   Last year 13% of parents participated, and our hope is to double or triple participation this year.  Hurry!  The survey window closes November 30th.

2.  Edgemont’s “Look for the Good” event is going strong. Students are doing an outstanding job spreading their goodwill.  A big part of our gratitude campaign is the Canned Food Drive sponsored by our 5thgrade student council.  Please send boxed and canned goods to school November 12th-20th.  You matter!
