Hello Edgemont Families,
My name is Mrs. Schino and I am thrilled to be Edgemont Elementary School's new principal. It is an honor to be appointed to this leadership role in Canyons School District. I have been very busy this summer learning about Edgemont's faculty, students, and community. It is clear to me that Edgemont is a special place.
Personally, I am married and have two sons. My boys, Sam and Gabe, attend 9th and 7th grade in Canyons District. Our house is busy this time of year with Fall baseball and football seasons upon us. We also keep busy with our dog, Lucy and our cat, Finn. When I am not being a fan at my sons' games, I enjoy hiking, biking and reading.
This is my twentieth year as a professional educator. My career began in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania after I graduated with a Bachelors degree in elementary education from St. Joseph's University. Two years later, my husband and I moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where I continued to teach for twelve more years. Six years ago my family and I moved to Utah. During this time I earned my Masters degree in Administration and Supervision. I taught for three more years, was an achievement coach for one year, an assistant principal at Midvale Middle School for one year, and now I am the principal at Edgemont Elementary School! My experiences teaching every grade level from Kindergarten through 5th grade will serve me well in my leadership role.
One of the first things I did as the new principal was meet with our Building Leadership Team (BLT). This team is comprised of representatives from each grade level, the special education department, our achievement coach, and our IT department. Our BLT updated our school wide SOAR behavior expectations. New posters were created and are now hung all around our building to remind students of positive ways to get recognized by adults. Please visit the "Our School" tab on our website to view these posters.
Thank you for sending your children to Edgemont Elementary School. I look forward to meeting all of you as the year goes on.
Here's to a great year!
