PBIS Reward!

Posted in News & Announcements

Edgemont Elementary School participates in Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) like every elementary school in Canyons District!  Our PBIS system is set up so that students receive "SOAR tickets" in the form of feathers when they demonstrate desired behaviors in common areas of the building as described on our SOAR posters.  SOAR stands for: Be SAFE, Be ON TASK, ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY, RESPECT SELF, OTHERS AND PROPERTY.

We have a very consistent routine for our PBIS program.  SOAR tickets are presented to students by an adult. The adult tells them explicitly why they are receiving the ticket.  Students then give the tickets to their classroom teacher.  Each classroom teacher celebrates and reinforces positive behavior recognition by sharing what the ticket says with the whole class!  The tickets are then brought to the front office where they are entered into a spreadsheet and hung in our hallway on our Eagle, Sky for all to see.  When Sky is completely full the whole building celebrates positive behaviors by participating in varied activities!

This month our students reviewed SOAR rules in all common areas to help increase understanding of desired behaviors.  As a result, Sky was filled up rather quickly!  Our students celebrated with a "Crazy Sock Day" recently.  Here are some photos of the fun we had reinforcing positive behaviors at Edgemont:
